Feng Shui is a 4000-year-old philosophy/science/art originating in Asia, which examines the relationship between people and their lives and their environment. The word “feng” refers to “wind” and the word “shui” refers to “water.” The original school of Feng Shui was called “Land Form School” or “Form School.”

These days it is sometimes called “Landscape School” and it was based on principles to place a building where it would be protected from the elements of wind and water, give protection from attacks of neighboring tribes on three sides, plus have a view toward the front where they could see anyone coming whether they be enemies or friends.

Feng Shui respects the personality and individuality of the person who occupies the dwelling—be it a home or workspace—and shares an insight into the psychological impact the environment plays on one’s life.  This predominately Asian philosophy (although there is a closely related Indian design perspective known as Vastu or Vastu Shastra) can help the Western culture learn and experience new tools to help us cope with many of our daily challenges without jeopardizing our own heritage.

When understood, this information can build strong bridges to link Western businesses with their Pacific Rim clientele and the expanding global community. It creates more harmony, vitality and peace in today’s environments reducing stress and improving health.
