Feng Shui Kitchen – Yin Qualities

Feng Shui kitchens need to have several qualities within them including a balance of the Feng Shui Yin and Feng Shui Yang qualities. Previously I've discussed many of the Yang qualities, so this post will address several ways to enhance Yin qualities.

Having fruits and vegetables displayed in a Feng Shui kitchen allows the balancing of Yin and Yang qualities. As well as bringing nature in to nurture the body and spirit it brings with it good Feng Shui chi.

A Feng Shui kitchen will have natural light, fresh air, lack of clutter and the introduction of nature by means of fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants - preferably fresh.

I say "preferably" since there are some situations where artificial might be permissible. For instance, in staging a home the use of artificial fruits or vegetables might be better since they will be on "display" for several weeks or months. You don't want them to spoil. Paintings and other artwork containing nature - any of the above items, plus animals - are also beneficial to the Feng Shui kitchen.

This Feng Shui kitchen brings in many Yin and Yang qualities. The natural lighting and gas stove attract Yang energy. Nature is brought in through painted panels on the pantry doors and apple pulls on the ceiling fan. The window curtains and the curved lines of the ceiling above the stove encourage Yin qualities to soften this Feng Shui kitchen.

Attracting Yin qualities into the Feng Shui kitchen will help ensure we have areas to nurture the body as well as the spirit. The spirit can feel attacked and is easily startled. Strategic placement of major elements can be a key factor in achieving success in this area.

Ideally we would like to be able to see the doorway from both the stove and the sink. This way we won't be surprised while preparing food or washing dishes.

Water plays a significant role in the kitchen. Water is the life force energy all living things need. Having a kettle of water on the stove or flowers floating in a bowl of water welcomes the spirit energy into the kitchen as well as infusing it with Feng Shui chi.

Water may take the form of flowing lines in granite counters. If those lines are created by the colors black or blue, that will multiply the affect. In fact, using both those colors in a kitchen, whether through appliances, dishes, art objects or accent pieces like rugs and towels, helps create balance of the Yin and Yang energies with the Feng Shui kitchen.

Having your towels draped over a towel bar or placing a cloth on the table are other ways to enhance the Yin energy of the kitchen.

Draping towels over the drawer pulls or over towel bars allows the Yin qualities to soften the energy of this otherwise very Yang Feng Shui kitchen.

With all the activities that take place in a kitchen, it usually has an overwhelming amount of Yang qualities. With it being symbolic of the heart of the home, we want to achieve a balance of the Yin and Yang qualities so we have balance in our lives.

Bringing Yin qualities into the Feng Shui kitchen allows us to ease into life a bit more slowly, supporting our body, mind and spirit with good Feng Shui chi.
