Why do a Space Clearing?

In writing about Space Clearings both in my blog and newsletter, several of you have asked me to explain why a person would want to do a Space Clearing? Simply put, it clears the environment of negative energy and feelings while infusing it with more harmonious feelings and lighter, more vibrant energy.

Have you ever walked into a place and had the hair on the back of your neck stand up? I know many of you have since you've told me. Or have you found yourself drawn to a building, even if it doesn't look like much from the outside, that delights you from the moment you enter it - it just "feels" so fantastic? Of course you have.

In both cases you have experienced the unseen and very present quality of energy. The energies of some places make you feel depressed while others make you joyful or feel nurtured. Sometimes you can "feel" what has happened before you enter a room or a building. Other times you may not realize how bad it was until you walk out of the space since it seems to slowly envelop you.

Space Clearing a home with many rooms for a realtor required several dozen plates with flowers and candles so each room had beauty and light in it.

Many realtors I know "get" this energy immediately. They know when the house is being sold due to health issues or a divorce before it's even discussed in the signing of a contract. Since they can feel it, doesn't it make sense the prospective buyers and other realtors can feel it as well, sensing something isn't good or right about the home? If you walk into a home with those energies, would you make an offer or find a different home that felt "right" from the beginning?

What about the argument you had in the bedroom the other night? Have you realized it is still lingering in the room, attracting more of the same energy? It's just waiting to have another argument that will add to the "bad feelings" in your bedroom creating a cumulative affect of negative energy within your sacred bedroom.

These are just a few of the many possibilities. During one of my master Feng Shui trainings a story of a women was told. It was felt as though there had been over a hundred men in the bed of the client. It turned out the women had been a prostitute, using that room and that bed for her "business"! Now she was bringing the man of her dreams into this energy to share their lives. Is that really the type of energy you want shared when you start a relationship with a future partner? Probably not.

There are several things going on with this "room away from home" to prevent me from getting a good night's sleep - and I know I'm not the only one. If the dead deer's head and beams weren't enough, there was a basement storage room where the restaurant and bar stored many things and were going in and out of it from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. every night.

Think of the hotel rooms where you stay on a vacation or traveling for business. Who else has been in the room? What has the energy been like of the person or people? Have they been happy, anxious, angry, abusive or had wild parties in the room? No wonder you haven't been able to get a good night's sleep in the room!

When I travel, I always take some candles and aromatherapy as a bare minimum to cleanse the space before I lie down for the night. Otherwise I have a restless night or even nightmares.

If you have dreams to accomplish or create something special, have you shared it with someone only to have them say it's a ridiculous idea? Even something as seemingly innocent as that can not only affect you in a negative way, preventing you from achieving your dream, it can manifest into more serious negative energies within the room or home of self-doubt, self-abuse and depression.

There are many more examples I could give, but let's turn this into a positive process. If you haven't read my previous post on Space Clearings and Sacred Spaces, this is the time to do so.

We are in a Mercury Retrograde timeframe right now. During Mercury Retros we want to remove items and old energy. And even if you are reading this when Mercury has gone direct, we can still do Space Clearings to create Sacred Spaces.

Ideally, I'd love to do a full Space Clearing in my home every couple of months since it changes and improves the vitality of the home and, thus, its occupants. But the reality of doing Space Clearings in others' homes takes time and energy. So I only do them about every 6-9 months in my own home. Unless there is a special occasion or special need.

A special occasion might be a birth or celebration. A special need might be a person's serious health issue.

When Hilory was diagnosed with cancer, I went through this house about every month. There was far too much negative energy at the hospital and doctor's office, plus all the people who "buy into" the negative thoughts. Just to make sure the home had the highest vitality and least negative energy possibly, not only did I do the Space Clearings every month, I created Sacred Spaces at home in the way of altars. I also created altars and Sacred spaces at the hospital and doctor's office with their permission.

So what are you waiting for? I've given you guidelines to do a Space Clearing and the reasons why. Go get some beautiful flowers, candles and something fragrant, even if it's just an orange or lemon, and clear the space of the old to make room for the new.

There's no time like the present to remove the old, make way for the new and create your home as Sacred Space!
