In last month's newsletter I mentioned doing "space clearings" as part of the things I'd like you to do during Mercury Retrogrades. Many of you have asked me to tell you more about space clearings so you can do them yourselves.
The first time I was introduced to space clearings was through a gentleman who did "heavy duty" clearings for the Vatican in Chicago. I think the main points he told me are the most important part of any space clearing - conscious awareness and intention.
When doing any space clearing work, we want to be as consciously aware of the process as possible. If you have any negative thoughts or fears, either don't do the space clearing at that point or change your thinking immediately. As many of you know, what we think, we attract. So if you are thinking fear, you'll attract fear. If you're thinking about lack, you'll attract lack. Obviously, these are not what we want in our lives. Henceforth, they are not what we want during a space clearing.
In this post, I'll give you the basic items you can include in your space clearing. In other posts, I'll share specifics about certain parts of the space clearing and sacred space process.
You'll want to have a central location from which to organize and start your ceremonies. I create an altar. When I'm doing it for myself, I'll set the altar up in a central location for the space I'm wanting to bless. If it is just a room, I'll set up a card table or clear a space on some flat surface to place my items. If I'm doing the whole house, I'll usually use the dining room or kitchen table.
To create the altar, you'll want to cover it with some cloth or a placemat to acknowledge and distinguish the area as "special". If you have a special scarf, fabric from a trip or fancy material, especially if it has gold, silver or other metallic threads, you might consider using it. Silk is also a fabulous fabric to use for blessings.
Some of the items you might want to include will be: fragrances (aromatherapy, essential oils, or incense are possibilities), sage for smudging, flowers, musical instruments (chimes, sticks, drums, rattles, bells) or music played through a sound system, fans, feathers, holy water, things from nature like branches or leaves, crystals, candles, color (could be through the cloth, flowers, candles or special items you bring to the altar) and anything that catches your eye once you have thought about doing the space clearing. You're subconscious will be working with you to figure out just what you'll need. Trust it!
Pick a time of the day when you are not rushed. It's also easier to do when no one else is around unless they actively want to participate in the ceremony. Animals sometimes want to help and other times they want to leave. If you can, allow them to make the decision. If you have an "anniversary date" with special meaning, that might be a good day to plan the ceremony.
Get a good night's rest. Take a shower in the morning so you are fresh and alert. Start thinking about all the good you wish to come into your home and your life. You're already starting the energy for space clearing and creating sacred spaces.
